Drugstore Solutions for Dark Under Eye Circles

Are dark under eye circles one of your cosmetic woes? You might think that it’s only about lacking enough sleep. It’s actually not – the puffiness and discoloration under eyes can be caused by elements such as allergies, thin eye skin, and certain lifestyle habits. Apart from natural dark under eye creams, there are over-the-counter drugstore eye creams and treatments for lightening these unsightly circles and fade discolored spots fast. Here are some of them:

  1. CC cream – CC stands for “color correcting,” and there are varieties that state they can help minimize dark circles or causing eye brightening. These use iron oxide or titanium oxide to conceal under eye circles. There are also formulas with aloe, cucumber extract, and B vitamins for easing the puffiness under eyes. There are CC creams, too, that have a built-in brush to be applied easily and conveniently.
  2. Brighteners and retinol – Those with thin skin under eyes can have blood vessels showing through – usually a hereditary condition. This way, dark circles seem permanent. Over-the-counter retinol creams can be applied at night to help build collagen, a skin-thickening agent. Prescription-strength ones are also available. Furthermore, you may use a bleaching cream containing licorice, daisy extract, and other natural brighteners.
  3. Sunscreen and related treatments – Sun exposure makes eye circles look darker, so it’s best to shield the delicate under-eye area with sunblock whenever you are heading outside. If you have allergies, you may also take an over-the-counter antihistamine for easing the inflammation. On the other hand, if you are prone to having puffy under-eye skin area in the morning, use a caffeine-based cream at night, putting a piece of medical paper tape under each eye to prevent blood pooling. Finally, there are grape seed oil-containing products, as well as green tea-added ones, for strengthening capillary walls.
  4. Makeup coverage – What could be more over-the-counter than your everyday makeup doing the trick in concealing dark under eye circles? There are dark circle correctors that may take a few days to work. For more immediate effects, use a peach-colored concealer for bluish circles. Mix a few drops of liquid concealer with a pinch of loose powder, and then gently dab it under eyes. Use a concealer pen for eye bags. Avoid dark eye shadows because they can draw more attention to circles; instead, apply a coat or two of volumizing mascara.
